David Duval Teams Up with Scratch Golf

Anyone who hasn't heard of Scratch Golf by now, better start paying attention!  Scratch Golf was started in 2003 and at the time, was primarily focused on wedges.  Their philosohy was that by being able to customize each wedge for each player, they could offer wedges that were above and beyond anything else available on the market.  The typical fitting of length, lie, and bounce isn't enough for The Oregon based golf company.  According to Scratch,  "Every component of the Scratch wedge can be customized to the customer’s needs. In addition, the 'Tour Department' offers the most comprehensive wedge customization on the market. Buyers can choose from three head shapes, 18 sole grinds, eight finishes, lofts from 46 to 64 degrees and unlimited stamping options."

Now however, Scratch Golf is much, much bigger than just great wedges!  Scratch Golf is now making custom irons, which from what I've seen, look even better than some of their wedges.  Scratch offers several sets that are pre-designed in terms of look, but you can still have the specs customized to match your game.  Though, if you want to achieve true "Baller" status, you can opt for the Tour Custom irons.  According to Scratch Golf, "Scratch Golf Tour Custom irons are fully customizable and made to your order.  They can be made to virtually any specification you request, ensuring a perfect fit for your game.  Every Tour Custom club starts as a heavy raw forging, which allows us to offer a multitude of sole grind, toe shape, stamping and finish options to fit your eye as well as your game.  Each head is hand made one at a time by master craftsman Don White, who’s nearly 40 years of experience and 14 major victories make him the most heralded craftsman in the game of golf.  Your clubs are only restricted by your imagination."  Your imagination and your wallet, as these irons run a premium price of around $2500 per set.

With the recent addition of David Duval to the cast of characters at Scratch Golf, I would expect to see a lot more publicity and growth for the company during the 2011 season. "I am extremely excited to join the Scratch Golf family," said Duval. "I put their clubs in play last season and they really made a difference in my game. In addition to playing the clubs, I look forward to working with the team at Scratch to develop some new products and grow the brand in the coming years."

Trackman Raises the Bar with Its New Performance Studio!

In a word, the new Trackman Performance Studio Software is, Incredible!  The Performance Studio software takes the analysis of the golf swing to a whole new level.  This software is the world's first shot-analysis tool that completely integrates video and data.  If capturing both video and data simultaneously wasn't enough, this new software completely layers the recorded video with 3D images of club path, ball flight direction, target, etc.

This new software is going to completely revolutionize the way golfers are able to analyze both their swings and their equipment.  The TopGolf Academy and Fitting Center has only just started working with the Performance Sutdio software, so expect to see a lot more info and updates shortly.

In the meantime, take a look at the Trackman Performance Studio Brochure.

Nike Staff Fitting Event at TopGolf - Where the Pros Get Fit!

This past Thursday, TopGolf hosted Nike golf and all of it's local golf staff professionals.  The purpose of this event was to allow the local pro's to test out Nike's newest equipment, see the new apparel and footwear, and get properly fit for the 2011 golf season.

The event was a big success overall.  Nike is very excited about it's 2011 product offering and based on the results of our fittings, we can see why!  Most of the professionals that were fitted seem to gravitate towards the new Nike ProCombo iron set.  This set takes last years VR Model irons and enhances all of the best features, while doing away with most of the bad.  Obviously, when working with our fellow golf professionals we expect to see quality golf shots.  However, even on the occasional mis-hit, the Nike ProCombo irons seemed to be very forgiving.

The most popular driver of the day was the new Nike SQ MachSpeed Black.  The new, all-black Machspeed driver comes in a more appealing round headed version.  Overall, the driver seems to be a much more forgiving alternative to the popular VR model.  The Machspeed also helps with increasing the launch angle without creating excessive spin.

The new product offering from Nike seems to be very solid for the 2011 season.  Click here to check out our pictures from the Nike Fitting Day.

The Latest and Greatest from Titleist - The 910 Series

Titleist's newest entry into the golf equipment world is the 910 series of metals.  While other equipment manufacturers have previously realesed clubs that allowed the player to adjust the specs, the 910 line is Titleist's first venture into the customizable headed metals.  Their decision to wait untill they got it right has really paid off because the 910 series is really, really good.

Unlike some of the drivers produced by other companies, the "SureFit" system on the Titleist 910 allows the player to adjust the loft and the lie angle of the club indepently.  This is a really nice feature for anybody who plays with a lie angle that is not "standard."  The "SureFit" system is also very easy to understand and use.

The default setting for the drivers are A-1.  This is the setting that will give the player a "standard" loft and lie angle.  The nice thing about this system is that basically, if you want to hit the ball higher you move up the chart to say A-4.  If you want to hit the ball more left you move left on the chart to maybe A-2.  The amazing thing about this driver in my opinion is how much each setting truly affects the ball flight.

The 910 series comes in two different head shapes.  The 460cc, D2 is designed for more of a mid/high launch with medium/low spin.  The 445cc, D3 is designed for mid launch with medium to low spin.

The custom shaft selection for the 910 series is also very impressive.  The driver is available with 5 different shaft options that come as a "stock" offering.  The Aldilla RIP, Project X X-7C3, Mitsubishi Diamana Kai'Li, 'Ahina, and 'Ilima (Previously Blue Board, White Board, and Red Board).  You also have your choice of dozens of other shafts avaialble as custom options.

The pure customization options for this driver make it an impressive offering into the line of 2011 drivers.  However, once you hit it, you'll realize that the 910 series is in a league of it's own!  I'll be posting some launch numbers for the new 910 series in the near future, so keep an eye out for that.

In the meantime, get out and hit the 910 stuff!  As a level 3 advanced fitter, TopGolf has all of the heads and shafts you need to get fit for the perfect driver.
